Description

Reports to the director, finance & administration. Directly supervises the accounting clerks. Responsible for performing accounting and audit functions within the general accounting function and summarizing data input for periodic operating statements.

  • Plan, coordinate and supervise the administrative and programmatic activities of the department.

  • Evaluate staff performance, provide staff training, and recommend and implement department and personnel changes to the manager, finance & administration.

  • Prepares data to input for developing financial statements and management information reports, including monthly accounting journal entries, overhead application schedules, bank reconciliations, general ledger account analyses.

  • Assist the director, finance and administration in the preparation of the departmental budget; monitor and control expenditures.

  • Review and audit all assigned areas regularly for contractual compliance and effectiveness of delivery of services to students. Prepare related reports.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of new and revised policies and procedures affecting accounting.

  • Prepare and maintain cost data and related analyses pertaining to center operations.

  • Audit the output of the accounts payable, payroll functions for both students and staff.

  • Maintain cash disbursements journal, general ledger and cost ledger by recording accounting transactions, preparing reconciliations and financial tabulations as assigned.

  • Balance books and compile statistical reports such as cash expenditures, departmental costs, and other pertinent reports.

  • Review incoming and prepare outgoing interdivisional billings, reconcile and clear interdivisional accounts and prepare associated journal entries.

  • Assist the director, finance and administration in the preparation of government billings; monthly 2110 for entire contract.

  • Assist center finance personnel in the preparation of month‑end closing of financial books and government, center and corporate financial reports; review reports for accuracy and resolve problems.

  • Coordinate student welfare fund accounting, including monthly automated reporting.

  • Maintain accountability of travel, p-card transactions, and student transportation.

  • Participate in required staff training.

  • Participate in student employability programs and activities to include participation in small learning teams.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in accounting or associated field and one year related experience preferred. Directly related experience may be considered in lieu of formal education requirements. Experience with youth, excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer proficiency also required. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record, unless waived by management.
